Tighter regulations for tradesmen
27 June 2012
Communities Minister Andrew Stunell has announced that new measures have been introduced to protect property owners from cowboy builders.
The regulations apply to tradesmen that check their own work such as window and boiler installers. They will now be required to meet higher standards to ensure their work is the right level of quality.
Moving forward, property owners will also be required to have insurance or a guarantee in place prior to works being carried out.
Mr Stunell, commented on homemove.co.uk that: “We are determined to keep the cowboys from infecting self-check schemes, which let hardworking competent tradesman get on with providing high quality work, quickly and at fair prices.”
He added that: “By raising the bar even higher for self-check tradesman, we are sorting the rogues from the professionals, making it easier for people to identify competent installers and giving them the confidence that they will receive a high quality of work – or be protected if they don’t.”
